ITINERARY:

DAY 1 - VIA Rail's "Canadian" from Vancouver to Jasper

This incredible 4 night experience from the Pacific Coast to the Canadian Rockies commences with a evening boarding on VIA Rail’s “Canadian” for your journey to Jasper. This award-winning journey is luxury on rails. Points of interest will include Hell’s Gate (gorge), Suicide Rapids in the North Thompson Canyon, and the Cisco Tunnels above the Fraser River. Please note that dinner is not included onboard the train this evening.

DAY 2 - Historic Walk in Jasper

Upon arrival in Jasper, you will be transferred to the world-renowned Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge where you will be staying for the next 3 nights. Spend the afternoon relaxing in comfort at this historic hotel before heading into town for a interpretive walk around the Jasper townsite. Take a step back in time and discover the characters that helped shape Jasper National Park and the mountain town of Jasper. Afterwards, be sure to stop by the Legion or the Atha B for a great local experience jamming with some great musicians.

DAY 3 - Exploring the Columbia Icefield

Today's half day excursion follows the famous Icefields Parkway to the Columbia Icefield Centre. View scenic rocky mountain vistas and local wildlife along the way, with a photo stop at Athabasca Falls and Stutfield Glacier. Upon arrival at the Columbia Icefield, ride a Brewster Ice Explorer onto the Athabasca Glacier. Time is provided to visit the gift shops or museum before your return back to Jasper. The remainder of the evening is at your leisure to explore.

DAY 4 - Canoeing on the Athabasca River

The Athabasca River Canoe Experience that you will experience today takes you along a gentle stretch of the Athabasca River. Enjoy the majestic Front and Main ranges while following the historic Overlander Trail. This section of river was often used by fur traders of the nineteenth century, an important part of Canada's history. This area is rich in wildlife, including Elk, Deer, Coyote, Sheep and Bear. Your trip takes you through the montane zone and along interesting sand dune formations, not often expected by visitors to Jasper National Park.

DAY 5 - Canoeing on the Athabasca River

A morning checkout from the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge ends your History & Culture Experience. The day is yours to continue on your homeward or onward journey.
